Banjarra Tribal

Proudly authentic, handmade rugs with a story. Banjarra stands for quality, and is a forerunner in trading traditional Afghan rugs and kilims. These rugs and kilims are hand-knotted and hand-woven from wool. They are personally sourced from a number of remote regions, which are home to the Turkman and Baluch tribal people. The relationships we have with these traditional artisans, allow us to ensure the quality and authenticity of our products.

In addition to rugs, Banjarra has a large collection of handmade items from around the world. This includes: traditional, handmade Afghan and Tibetan jewellery; precious and semi-precious crystals, stones and jewels; home-wares, textiles, singing bowls and copper ornaments from Nepal; and pillows, cushions, and saddle bags.

Rugs, however, are our specialty. Banjarra has a large range of authentic, handmade rugs. The rugs are made from quality wool and come in a variety of styles, colours, shapes and sizes. This includes traditional rectangle shaped rugs, runners or hallway rugs, round and square rugs. The many designs we carry include traditional designs as well as more modern ones. Banjarra has both hand-knotted rugs and hand-woven kilims which are thinner and flatter than regular rugs.

At Banjarra, all of our products are personally sourced from around the world. The close relationship we have with these traditional artisans, means we can share their stories and local history. The products we offer are at some of the most affordable prices to buying directly from the local artisans.

About Us

Banjarra Tribal is a proudly local, family business in South Fremantle. The business is run by Najeeb, who personally sources his products from around the world. He has a passion for quality and authenticity; as well as sharing the history of the product, where it came from and how it was made.

Najeeb is full of knowledge, and quite passionate about the traditional art of rug making. He has a very close relationship with the local craftsmen and craftswomen, and he always tries to support these traditional artisans (weavers, jewellers…) by buying their goods at a fair price.

Najeeb has had 25 years of experience while being in the rug business in Pakistan. After moving to Australia in 2000, Najeeb has been in the rug business – always working for himself and sourcing his own goods.

These products have been personally sourced from Kunduz, Northwest Afghanistan, and Peshawar Markets. It has always been Najeeb’s priority to be honest and fair in business, especially with his customers. As such, he will always include accurate descriptions of where a product has come from, what it is made from and how it has been made.
